Thanks everyone for your generosity for our collection handed to Rosemount Church.
A group of our pupils were lucky enough to be involved in this project run by Tameside MBC and Oldham Coliseum Theatre, funded by the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation.
Working under the direction of Sarah Eastaff from Oldham Coliseum, the pupils devised a short piece based on the themes of 'loyalty' and 'super-heroes'.
The project was run as an authentic, professional-style theatre experience - involving script-reading sessions, rehearsals at school, and technical and dress rehearsals at the theatre, culminating in an evening performance watched by over 200 people!
On 9th November Derek Fisher a 90 a veteran, came into school and met with the pupils to share his life experiences. He shared his experiences of fighting in Germany and Palestine And also his life experiences from the age of 17 to present date.
It was clear that Derek Fisher had experienced events that could have impacted upon his life in a negative way. However, Derek had taken this in his stride and had continued to thrive and lead a full and happy life.
He talked about the photos he had brought along to share and also the badges which had been presented to him.
In October 2015 Mr McBurnie Mrs Mac, Tyler Campbell and Shania Keegan embarked on a trip to Belgium to visit the battlefields. This was a huge success and was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Both Shania and Tyler then teamed up with two pupils from Hyde Community College who they met whilst on the Belgium trip and hosted a Remembrance Day event at Hyde Town Hall courtesy of Councillor Fitzpatrick. They were able to sell handmade poppies which pupils back at school had made and raised an incredible £48 for the British Legion.
Thomas Ashton School football team have been practising their football skills since the beginning of the year in September. The football team is made up of a mixture of Year 7 and Year 8 pupils.
We have always had a football team, and each year the players have worked hard and shown good skills and a great attitude.
And this year is no different! We were over the moon when the team managed to achieve their first win on 9th March 2016, narrowly beating Hyde Community College.
