Helping the Homeless
One of our classes visited Pauline Town MBE to deliver our first batches of shortbreads and muffins which the whole school had been baking throughout the week. Pauline and her team were incredibly grateful for our support, as the food will be added to the packed lunches they prepare for people in need each day.
As part of the project, we also discussed what being homeless really means. Students challenged some of the stereotypes they’d heard and came to understand that homelessness can happen for many reasons — for example, if a landlord sells their house or a family loses their home in a fire. This helped them see that homelessness isn’t about being “lazy” or “an alcoholic,” but often about difficult circumstances beyond someone’s control.
This has been a wonderful and eye-opening experience for everyone involved, and we look forward to continuing our work with Pauline and her amazing community project in the future.
