VIP Derek Fisher (WWII Veteran) visit

On 9th November Derek Fisher a 90 a veteran, came into school and met with the pupils to share his life experiences. He shared his experiences of fighting in Germany and Palestine And also his life experiences from the age of 17 to present date.

It was clear that Derek Fisher had experienced events that could have impacted upon his life in a negative way. However, Derek had taken this in his stride and had continued to thrive and lead a full and happy life.

He talked about the photos he had brought along to share and also the badges which had been presented to him.

Van Zant pupils mentored the the younger pupils and did this very well and were very mature. All pupils present were impeccably behaved and Derek Fisher enjoyed his visit to our school, but not as much as we enjoyed having him.

We aim to keep in touch with Derek in the future and hope he will return next year and share his experiences with us again.
