Retreat to the 'Virtual' Art Gallery June 2020

The Special Schools Arts Hub decided that after several successful years of hosting our annual ‘Retreat to the Exhibition’ at Thomas Ashton School, showcasing the fantastic artwork of pupils across Tameside, that the schools were not going to let Covid 19 stand in our way. With the help of Tracy Webster, Education Manager, Tameside Cultural Services, we set about creating it ‘virtually’.

The theme this year is VE Day. We were hoping for a really full-packed event at TAS, raising lots of money for a fantastic local charity, which is very close to our hearts; Reuben’s Retreat. Unfortunately, with present circumstances it soon became apparent that this would not happen. However could I please ask that when viewing the work that you bear in mind the fantastic work that the charity ‘Reuben’s Retreat’ are doing.

This year, as we have done previously, we have worked with The Lakes Care home in Dukinfield (virtually). Pupils at TAS have created some fantastic frames and we were able, with the help of Tracy Hannible -Senior Activities Coordinator, and Beth Winter- Activity Coordinator at The Lakes, to frame past and present photographs of two of the residents; Nadine and Umiliben. A true reflection of their lives.

This is an art experience where viewers can enjoy an interactive experience.
With a virtual gallery, there is no drop-off and pick-up. ...Viewers can revisit artworks multiple times without travelling to a physical place, where some might never even get to in real life.
Grab yourself a drink and take in and appreciate the art of some of our talented artists here at Thomas Ashton School.
Thank you for visiting and please feel free to give any feedback.
