This year the special schools in Tameside along with The Lakes Nursing Home supported by the Arts Council have initiated a project involving all the special needs schools in Tameside and the Lakes Nursing home to present their own Art installation to mark this special commemoration.
Using the history of the Holocaust and other atrocities the project is designed to help pupils understand why qualities such as tolerance and acceptance of others are so important in us all. And how such events in history should never be forgotten.

All Groups have been working with a range of media and medium to create a remembrance day art piece.

Some are made from leaves, others have been inspired by photography. All work I am sure you will agree, is beautiful and a real credit to the pupils.

These will all be displayed in the entrance hall of Hyde Town Hall from Thursday 10th November to commemorate Remembrance Day 2022

To raise money for The British Legion some of the work will be made into coasters and will be on sale for £1.00

Please could you let the office know if you would like one .

Each year as part of our special needs arts hub all the special schools in Tameside come together to form one annual art exhibition. We have been doing this now for a number of years. The aim of the exhibition is to celebrate the artwork of all children across the special schools in Tameside, whilst at the same time trying to raise money for Reuben's Retreat in Glossop.

Monday, 8 June, 2020 - 13:23

The Special Schools Arts Hub decided that after several successful years of hosting our annual ‘Retreat to the Exhibition’ at Thomas Ashton School, showcasing the fantastic artwork of pupils across Tameside, that the schools were not going to let Covid 19 stand in our way. With the help of Tracy Webster, Education Manager, Tameside Cultural Services, we set about creating it ‘virtually’.
